QB Blake Bortles

I apologize to Jaguars fans in advance for bringing up the Blake Bortles saga that many wish to forget. His career hasn’t panned out the way many have hoped, but in reality, he did become the second all-time passing leader for the Jaguars.

After being drafted third overall in 2014 by Jacksonville, Bortles went on to play five seasons with the team and threw for 17,646 yards, 103 touchdowns, 75 interceptions, and a 59.3 completion percentage. His record was a disappointing 24-49 during that time and the Jaguars managed to make the playoffs only once.

Bortles had signed a three-year contract extension with Jacksonville in 2018 only to be released a year later when the Jaguars decided to move forward with free agent Nick Foles as their quarterback.

He then spent the 2019 season in Los Angeles backing up Jared Goff and spent 2020 with the Denver Broncos. He had a short second stint with the Rams towards the end of the 2020 season and now his next team remains to be seen.

RB T.J. Yeldon

T.J. Yeldon was supposed to be the great NFL running back out of Alabama in 2015. The Jaguars drafted him with the 36th overall pick—the third running back to be taken in the draft behind Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon.

Yeldon was often an inconsistent performer for the Jaguars. At times he flashed potential, rushing for over 100 yards in three different games but that was very well much it. He’s only had six rushing touchdowns during his six-year career and seven receiving touchdowns.

Yeldon didn’t receive a contract extension with the Jaguars likely due to a week 17 incident in 2018 when Yeldon and fellow teammate Leonard Fournette sat on the bench looking “disinterested”.  Tom Coughlin, the team’s executive vice president of football operations at the time, said the players were being “disrespectful” and “selfish”.
