Alejandro Villanueva could become the Jacksonville Jaguars blindside protector.

If the Jaguars want to keep Trevor Lawrence (or whichever quarterback they draft) upright, they will need to provide him with sound protection upfront. The Cincinnati Bengals showed the importance of protecting their franchise quarterback last season when they lost Joe Burrow to a torn ACL.

The ‘Jags’ should make upgrading their offensive line a priority this offseason. While their defense is in need of a makeover, they have enough resources to address their defense and upgrade their left tackle position. Cam Robinson is set to become a free agent and they may be better off letting him test the market. They could then sign someone like Steelers left tackle Alejandro Villanueva with the money they would’ve allocated to bring back Robinson.

Villanueva has been consistent throughout his career in Pittsburgh and has started 80 games in the last five seasons. Besides being durable, he has played at a high level and has allowed just 10 sacks in the last three years. Trent Williams will be the top left tackle in the market, but there will also be a demand for Villanueva’s services. It will be up to the Jaguars to decide how much money they want to invest in the position but they should be pleased with the options they will have.
