Analysis: What will Jacksonville Jaguars do with their top 10 free agents?
Sidney Jones was thriving early in the season for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Cornerback Sidney Jones IV could not figure things out with the Philadelphia Eagles, who used a second-round selection on the Washington product in 2017. Things just didn’t work in ‘the City of Brotherly Love’, as injuries mounted up and he fell short of expectations.
When Jones arrived in Jacksonville, no one knew if they were going to get much of anything from him. The team was honestly just in need of bodies in its secondary and Jones had solid potential, so the team pulled the trigger.
These last three weeks will be big for Jones. He has put a lot of good stuff on film and has been effective for the Jaguars when healthy. The cornerback knows how to play the ball and while he gets beat at least once a game, he makes enough big plays to make up for it.
The key for Jones is health though. If the new regime doesn’t want to run the risk of re-signing someone who can’t stay on the field, it wouldn’t make much sense to keep Jones, but the way this secondary looks right now, they could still really use a cornerback like Jones, even with the risk he presents.
