One of the biggest draft needs for the Jaguars is offensive tackle.

Penei Sewell is easily the best tackle prospect of this draft and will be gone within the first five picks. The Jaguars do have the opportunity to draft Sewell with their current number two overall selection but will likely draft a quarterback instead.

Luckily for Jacksonville, they also hold the 26th and 34th overall pick selections, which are prime positions to draft a tackle to develop alongside your young quarterback. The offensive line hasn’t been great for the Jaguars this season.

Samuel Cosmi is one of the leading tackles of this draft behind Sewell and is considered a raw prospect projected to be drafted in the mid-to-late first round. Cosmi redshirted for the Texas Longhorns in 2017 and has started 26 of the 27 games he has played for the team.

Jaguars could use a blindside blocker

Cosmi’s ability to move well will help prevent defensive ends from beating him around the edge and his length will allow him to extend into his blocks and keep defenders in check. He has good size for a tackle prospect at 6’7″ 309 pounds and his slender frame will allow him to bulk up a bit at the pro level.

Cosmi is a solid run blocker but needs to work on his ability as a power blocker and refine his technique. He’s quick out of his stance and moves his feet well but sometimes encounters balance issues.

Cosmi ultimately decided to opt-out of the Longhorn’s final two regular-season games of the year to prepare for the draft. Pre-draft workouts will show whether or not his experience as a successful blindside blocker at the collegiate level will translate to the NFL.

If the Jaguars bring in a rookie quarterback as most expect, they need someone to protect the young prospect’s blindside. Even if they stick with someone like Gardner Minshew, a tackle with such instincts as Cosmi would be a huge addition.
