Jacksonville Jaguars: A look at the decision to start QB Mike Glennon
Are these Jacksonville Jaguars throwing in the towel?
The simple truth is there is not much, if any, upside to Glennon as your starter. He was drafted in the third round in 2013 and after playing for five teams in his seven-year career he is not going to magically turn things around. At this point he is what he is; a backup at best and a third-string quarterback at worst.
Fortunately, the Jaguars are most likely under no impression Glennon is going to come in and start slinging the ball all around the yard. Instead, they are surely expecting him to manage the offense, make correct decisions and not turn the ball over the way Luton did against the Steelers.
There is one aspect of Glennon’s start that though that doesn’t sit right. There is no upside with him at the helm. With Luton, there was still a young quarterback with some solid traits that could eventually become a solid player.
Is this season basically seen as a complete foregone conclusion with Glennon as the starter? He may only be the guy for a week and act as a bridge as opposed to the actual quarterback for the rest of the season. But if this becomes the norm for the remainder of the season, it becomes extremely difficult to argue this organization is truly trying to win.
