Could the Jacksonville Jaguars make a run for BYU QB Zach Wilson?

At this point, it isn’t far-fetched to suggest the Jacksonville Jaguars don’t have their franchise quarterback on the roster. However, they will have a chance to select one in 2020’s draft. Zach Wilson could make this a difficult choice, as he will likely declare for next year’s players’ selection process.

BYU quarterback coach Aaron Roderick told The Deseret News the junior signal-caller will almost certainly enter next year’s draft. If that’s the case, the ‘Jags’ may run into a burden-of-choice kind of situation as they will have a fair share of prospects to choose from.

Trevor Lawrence will likely be next year’s top quarterback in the draft and the New York Jets are expected to have the first overall selection. If the ‘Gang Green’ picks the Clemson standout, the Jaguars, which will tentatively hold the second overall choice, could select either Florida’s Justin Fields or Wilson.

This season, the Cougar’s quarterback is 166-of-221 for 2,512 yards, 22 touchdowns, and just one interception. Moreover, he is averaging an outstanding 11.4 yards per attempt and has a 75.1 completion rate.

This is going to be a tough one for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On the bright side, the Jaguars will have a chance to pick the quarterback they want. Drafting Wilson with the second overall choice could seem a bit high, even a reach, but if the team’s brass sincerely believes he’s the better prospect, they should go with the Cougars quarterback.

Justin Fields has been a playmaker for the Buckeyes, but this could be a question of taste. To make matters worse, the Jaguars could have a new head coach and maybe even a new general manager in place next year, a factor that could blur the organization’s plans at quarterback.

Justin Fields may currently be the best quarterback prospect after Trevor Lawrence, but if Zach Wilson keeps playing the way he has, he could make the Jaguar’s decision to draft a quarterback a tricky one.
