More Confidence in the Pocket

When Gardner Minshew was at his best last season, he was scrambling around, directing traffic like he was playing sandlot football. It was exciting to watch, but it also exposed many of the problems the Jaguars offense had in 2019.

The offensive line played a big part in the failures of the team’s game plan.

In his most recent story on FanSided.com, Rucker Haringey predicted Minshew would only last eight games this season. He is correct that Minshew’s arm strength is still a question. But the intangibles Minshew brings to this offense are going to improve over time. Where Haringey believes Marrone will look for an alternative to his starter this season, I believe he will surprise many of us.

Look for Minshew to throw for over 4,000 yards in an offense designed by Jay Gruden. The former O.C. in Cincinnati and head coach in Washington will use his quarterback’s strengths to his advantage. Add a new tight end in Tyler Eifert and the continued improvement in the ground game from Leonard Fournette should be a benefit.

Also, if the passing game improves, DJ Chark will take another step forward as a top option as a pass catcher in the NFL, not just here in Jacksonville.
