Jacksonville Jaguars: 3 Reasons for optimism in 2020
By David Levin
The Jaguars have a Quarterback named Gardner Minshew
I admit I stole the headline from 12thmanrising.com, our sister site on FanSided.com for everything you want to know about the Seattle Seahawks. Just like the birds who play out in the great northwest, the cats here in Jacksonville have themselves a quarterback to lead the way.
Gardner Minshew isn’t on the same level as Russell Wilson, who was a third-round draft pick and blossomed into one of the best in the NFL, just yet. But the dude with the super cool beard and the moxie of a veteran signal-caller should be one of the guys who makes the offense fun to watch in 2020.
Minshew gets the benefit of playing another season in Jacksonville with Chark and Fournette and as we pray to the football gods, a better offensive line. Jay Gruden’s style of playcalling is more beneficial for the former sixth-round draft pick. It’s a strong possibility the offensive success in 2020 will surpass the defense.
As he begins his second season in the NFL, Minshew must make better decisions when pass protection breaks down and help this team find a way into the end zone after reaching the red zone.
Minshew accounted for 3,271 yards passing and 21 touchdowns in 2019, so there is the ability to approach the 30-touchdown plateau with better execution. It remains to be seen if everyone on offense can play with consistency.
