Taven Bryan

I wonder how Datone Jones would have looked in the middle of the Jaguars defense. The free-agent defensive tackle never signed with a team during the season after being released following the preseason here in Jacksonville.

I write this because Taven Bryan had his moments, but it was otherwise a disappointing season for the second-year first-round draft pick out of Florida. Fans can scream all they want the team could have taken quarterback Lamar Jackson instead, but I stand pat in my thought the coaching staff would not have changed its playbook to fit Jackson’s ability.

Bryan showed he could be a factor in the run defense at times and could apply pressure up the middle at the quarterback. If the Jaguars do release Marcell Dareus and potentially Calais Campbell, it means Bryan will likely start in the middle.

It’s a thought Jaguars fans don’t want to think about right now. Bryan must show he is ready to assume a bigger role on the defensive line in 2020.
