Keeping and Releasing Veterans

Campbell said he was under contract with the Jaguars for next season and will be back when asked on Sunday evening about his future with the team.

"“Of course, I’m on the contract still,” he added. “I know in the past I said that I didn’t know because this business is tough, but I’m on the contract still so I expect to be here with this team.”"

It may not be that simple. The Jaguars have some decisions to make about their roster and the future of players here in Jacksonville. Campbell may be as easy as renegotiating his deal. Others, like cornerback A.J. Bouye, aren’t that simple. Bouye played better in 2019, but is he worth the $13 million the Jaguars are supposed to pay him in each of the next two seasons? Will the front office, if new, believe he is expendable?

Marcell Dareus figures to be gone and there are questions about the contracts of Marqise Lee, Brandon Linder, Andrew Norwell and potentially Nick Foles if the team decides to try to trade him. This might be the biggest conversation of the offseason. The Jaguars roster figures to be much different in 2020. Which players are released will speak volumes about the direction the team takes this offseason.
