In a move that should not be surprising, the Jacksonville Jaguars have traded Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced they have traded cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams. The deal comes hours after it was announced the Rams dealt cornerback Marcus Peters to the Baltimore Ravens.

The trade also comes three weeks after Ramsey demanded a trade from the Jaguars because of a strained relationship with the front office. The former first-round draft pick out of FSU in 2016 has not played since the third week of the season when he suffered a back injury against the Tennessee Titans.

This is a trade that makes sense and ends one of the low points in team history. Ramsey, the outspoken and controversial player wasn’t helping his team by not being on the field and using social media and other media outlets to voice his displeasure for being part of the franchise.

Prior to the start of training camp, Ramsey spoke with the media, telling everyone in attendance that he was told he would not be receiving a new contract this season. Jalen Ramsey is in the final year of a rookie deal, but the team did announce prior to the start of the NFL Draft his fifth-year option was picked up that would have paid him $13.7 million in 2020.

The trade also sets the Jaguars up well for the 2020 and 2021 NFL Draft.

"As John Oehser of Jaguars.com wrote, “The Jaguars currently hold nine selections (Jacksonville’s first-round pick, Los Angeles Rams’ first-round pick, Jacksonville’s second-round pick, Jacksonville’s third-round pick, Jacksonville’s fourth-round pick, Los Angeles Rams’ fifth-round pick, Jacksonville’s sixth-round pick, Seattle’s sixth-round pick and Jacksonville’s seventh-round pick).“In 2021, the Jaguars currently hold nine selections (Jacksonville’s first-round pick, Los Angeles Rams’ first-round pick, Jacksonville’s second-round pick, Jacksonville’s third-round pick, Jacksonville’s fourth-round pick, Los Angeles Rams’ fourth-round pick, Jacksonville’s fifth-round pick, Jacksonville’s sixth-round pick, and Jacksonville’s seventh-round pick).”"

The deal also sets Jacksonville up nicely for the next two drafts as they now have 18 picks, including four first-round selections, over the next two drafts.

Jalen Ramsey was an All-Pro selection and Pro Bowl player in 2017. Was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2018.
