Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Buffalo Bills: Wild Card Preview
By Billy Long
The Jaguars will lose if…
…Tyrod Taylor is allowed to extend plays
The Jacksonville defense bounced back last Sunday against Tennessee, after giving up 37 offensive points to the Niners the week before. The Jaguars held the Titans to just 15 points, even after getting thrown into the fire of having to defend on a short field numerous times. The defense appears to be ready to prove that the unit is indeed the league’s best.
But as good as the defense is, it has broken down on a few occasions in one specific area. Against San Francisco, Jimmy Garoppolo was able to allude pressure and find receivers down the field, and that was more of the case in the win versus Seattle. Twice in the second half, Russell Wilson was able to escape containment and hit on two deep touchdowns to bring the Seahawks back to life.
There’s not anything particularly menacing about Buffalo’s offense, averaging just below 19 points a game. But don’t give up easy plays and give the Bills a spark by letting quarterback Tyrod Taylor keep plays alive with his legs. It’s imperative that the playmakers on the defensive line not only get home, but bring Taylor to the ground.
If the defense keeps Tyrod Taylor in the pocket and under seige, the Jaguars will win the game. But if Taylor is allowed to escape and make plays on the fly, the first home playoff game in 18 years could go south for Jacksonville.
