Jacksonville Jaguars: 53-Man Roster Prediction
By Jacob DeFee
Defense (25)
Defensive Line: Calais Campbell, Malik Jackson, Abry Jones, Yannick Ngakoue, Dante Fowler, Dawaune Smoot, Michael Bennett, Hunter Dimmick, Sheldon Day, Carroll Phillips
Ten linemen make the team. This may seem excessive, but Tom Coughlin and Doug Marrone know how important a good pass rush is and they need to be able to rotate the big men up front to keep them fresh.
Linebackers: Paul Posluszny, Myles Jack, Telvin Smith, Blair Brown, Lerentee McCray, Hayes Pullard
People can dislike Posluszny for whatever reason they want, but the fact of the matter is he is one of the best inside linebackers in the game, he will likely come off the field in passing situations barring an injury to Myles Jack.
Cornerbacks: Jalen Ramsey, A.J. Bouye, Aaron Colvin, Jalen Myrick, Josh Johnson
This is the easiest position, the top four guys are easy and then there is one spot left for Johnson or possibly another camp body to make his way onto the team like Johnson did last year.
Safeties: Barry Church, Tashaun Gipson, Jarrod Wilson, James Sample
This is a pretty obvious position, the only surprise would be if Peyton Thompson or a camp body beats out Jarrod Wilson.
Special Teams (3)
Kicker: Jason Myers
Punter: Brad Nortman
Long Snapper: Carson Tinker
These three guys are also safe, no one will beat them out and there probably won’t be much competition for any of them except for Myers.
Overall, the roster does not have any huge weaknesses, but could use better depth at a few positions. The fate of the season will once again fall on Blake Bortles’ shoulders…
