5a. Nick Mangold, free agent center

Nick Mangold’s career with the New York Jets has been downright excellent. He has been a stalwart offensive tackle through his career, only ever missing three games from 2006 to 2015 before missing eight in 2016.

While he may be entering his twilight years, Mangold’s presence would solidify the center spot, allow Brandon Linder to move over to his more natural guard position (though he seems equally excellent at both), and also provide some key leadership on the offensive line. Mangold and Branden Allen would be great additions to the locker room, helping the Jags make a clean break from the “rookie mistake” prone group of young players under Gus Bradley’s leadership to Doug Marrone‘s new “win now” crew.

5b. Chris Chester, pending Atlanta Falcons free agent guard

Like Nick Mangold, Chris Chester’s prime may be behind him. At age 34 he brings more leadership and experience as a potential Jacksonville Jaguars addition than locking down the position for coming seasons.

That said, he would be downright excellent to add to the team. He has only missed seven games in his entire career and hasn’t missed one since 2010. Chester has locked down the guard position for any team he has played for, doing everything asked of him. If the Jags want to re-establish the running game, Chester may be the man to do it for the team.

These six players are far from the only ones that the Jags could target, but they are definitely worth considering. They can provide competition or step in immediately and help turn 2017’s offensive line one of the most talented the Jags have had in a decade.
