Jacksonville Jaguars vs New York Jets: Players to watch

3) Defensive lineman/linebacker Ryan Davis
The Jacksonville Jaguars have had Ryan Davis providing quality, efficient pass rushing depth for years now. Boasting 10 sacks over the last two seasons, Davis is a pass rushing technician who can get after the quarterback either inside or outside, giving the Jags a valuable component on the defensive line rotation.
Unfortunately, Davis has never managed to break through and become a complete defensive lineman for the team. Primarily a defensive end, he’s breaking into new territory in 2016 as a coverage player, giving him more hybrid responsibilities, infringing on the “otto” strong-side linebacker role. How Davis performs in his new situation will be interesting, especially given his primary use as a pass rushing technician.
In true Jags form, he’s going to be a bit of an in-betweener with a range of responsibilities. Considering that he is going to be lower on the depth chart, we should see plenty of him in the preseason. Expect him to make an impact against the Jets in Preseason Week 1. He delivers when he’s on the field and that won’t change regardless of new roles.
