Clemson. Mackensie Alexander. 38. player. 52. . CB

Mackensie Alexander is a good enough player to be drafted in the first round, anywhere from the middle of that round to the later picks. Nabbing him at the top of the second, especially when he fills a critical spot on a shaky Jacksonville Jaguars secondary, is a perfect value for the Jags.

Chad Reuter at NFL.com recently put Alexander on his list of five players who are likely to slip on draft day. Slipping to the top of the second round is not ideal for Alexander, but it is ideal for the Jags. They get a top-flight cornerback without needing to invest a highly valuable first rounder in the top five.

In Reuter’s article, he notes that “There’s no doubt that Alexander has talent. And I’m guessing that he ends up a solid NFL starter who plays for a long time.” The relative appeal, compared to players like William Jackson III, Vernon Hargreaves, and Jalen Ramsey, is what makes him fall down the draft board. Brandt has four cornerbacks ranked above Alexander, including those three and Eli Apple in the spot directly above him at 37th overall.

Alexander is a player who grows on you with some exceptional skills as a lockdown corner. He works hard and is less instinctive than many of his peers, but he will put in the work to be among the best at his position and continue to work to be a top corner.
