The Jacksonville Jaguars have already had bad luck with injuries in 2015, without even having played a regular season game yet. The string of unfortunate events began when first round pick Dante Fowler Jr. first stepped on the field during rookie minicamp. Barely half an hour into his first practice with the team, Fowler took a bad step, buckled his knee, and tore his ACL.
Yikes.
Subsequently, everyone has tempered their expectations for the Jaguars’ 2015 draft class quite a bit. While losing your first round pick isn’t ideal, the team does still have a few rookies to get excited about heading into 2015. None of those players were exciting enough for Mel Kiper Jr. however, as he didn’t put any Jaguars on his projected all-rookie team for 2015.
He did mention some Jacksonville players in his “under consideration” section:
"Also under considerationRB: T.J. Yeldon, Jacksonville JaguarsWill get a lot of carries, just not as many as a healthy Gordon.S: James Sample, Jacksonville JaguarsIf he wins the free safety role he’ll make plays for them.PK: Jason Myers, Jacksonville Jaguars (Played in Arena League last year, is considered a rookie)"
I don’t think Yeldon is going to get as many carries as we probably thought earlier this offseason, mainly because Denard Robinson has looked so good. Yeldon will also probably need more time to get used to live-action after missing most of the preseason.
James Sample is a bit of a wild card as well, only having played in the final preseason game and flashing some playmaking ability. Of all the Jaguars, Sample probably has the best shot of actually being on the all-rookie team at the end of the year. If he can get on the field and push to take playing time away from Sergio Brown, Sample should play well enough to stand out of an extremely weak safety class.
Jason Myers could be on there too, but let’s give this guy a break. He has some pretty big shoes to fill.
