Jacksonville Jaguars: 8 players ruled out against Giants

The Jacksonville Jaguars take on the New York Giants in Week 2 of the preseason on Saturday. While mostly an evaluation tool, preseason games give the fanbase a chance to finally see their team take the field and play real* football.

It’s an exciting time for the NFL fandom and while keeping the team healthy is a top priority, it’s always a shame when we don’t get to see a player we like take a few snaps.

So far, eight players have been ruled out by head coach Gus Bradley. They are:

  • Julius Thomas (hand)
  • Johnathan Cyprien (finger)
  • Marqise Lee (hamstring)
  • James Sample (forearm)
  • Chris Clemons (personal)
  • Peyton Thompson (hamstring)
  • Brennan Williams (knee)
  • Neal Sterling (hamstring)

Clemons has just returned to practice after missing the first two weeks of training camp for personal reasons. His limited return does not have him ready for preseason action and Bradley flatly stated that he will not be playing.

Julius Thomas and Johnathan Cyprien were both injured in the first preseason game when the Jacksonville Jaguars played the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are expected to miss the rest of the preseason, but should be ready to go when Week 1 of the regular season rolls around.

We’ll be waiting to see if two players will make their preseason debut on Saturday. They are:

  • T.J. Yeldon (finger)
  • Roy Miller (knee)

Miller and Yeldon are both game-time decisions but it looks like Yeldon is the most likely to miss the game. While we all hope he can make the game, it’s best to be cautious with the player who is expected to almost single-handedly balance the offense.

Miller is an exciting return for the Jags, bringing a steady presence as a core building block at defensive tackle. If he does play, don’t expect to see him out there too long. The Jaguars know what they have in Miller and it’s more important to keep him healthy at this point than to evaluate him after his rehab from injury.
