5) Denard Robinson, Running Back

I liked what Denard Robinson put together in limited carries on Friday. He didn’t dominate the game but, to me, he seemed more professional and more at home in the running back position.

Robinson finished the night with 22 yards off four attempts with a long of 10. Four attempts is a small sample size, but this is the kind of stat line I expect form Robinson. He isn’t going to be wowing us with six yard runs all the time but he’ll post a 10 yard run every so often, threatening the defense consistently enough that they have to respect him.

With T.J. Yeldon out for the game, we got to see what Robinson could offer a bit more. I didn’t fall in love, but thought he showed some progress from last season.

I want to see what he can do with more opportunities and I want to see what he can do as he and Yeldon complement each other in the backfield. I am comfortable with Robinson being the guy in the backfield if Yeldon finds himself limited with injury (God forbid!) but I definitely want to see them work together to make the backfield better overall. We’ll see that later, but for now he left me confident.
