Blake Bortles shines in full pads training camp practice

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in the thick of training camp with a scrimmage coming up this Saturday and their first preseason game a little over a week away. The team finally had a chance to get physical on Wednesday with their first full pads practice, and the word coming out of the session is that Bortles looked very sharp:

One of the biggest takeaways from Bortles’ rookie season was that he was a much better in-game player than a practice player. That bodes extremely well for 2015 if Bortles is already looking noticeably sharper in training camp.

Here are a few videos from the folks who made it to training camp on Wednesday:

Bortles was sharp throughout practice in both drills and 11-on-11s. Here he is with a nice short throw to Denard Robinson:

He was throwing ropes to all receivers, including newcomer Bryan Walters:

Here’s a connection we’ll likely see early and often in 2015: Bortles to newly acquired tight end Julius Thomas:

Bortles was throwing extremely well on timing routes, like this one to Arrelious Benn:

Here’s one of the most interesting throws of the day – a touchdown pass to 5th round pick Rashad Greene:

Here it is from another angle thanks to the Jaguars Twitter account (a great follow by the way):

It looks like the safety had a beat on it, but he either went for broke and missed the interception or didn’t want to blow up Greene on the reception. It’s hard to determine whether or not that would’ve been a touchdown in a real game, but it’s still a pretty throw down the middle and a solid catch by Greene.

With the preseason on our doorstep, it’s time to start getting excited for the 2015 season and Blake Bortles is provided plenty of fodder to get us amped up.
