3) Can Aaron Colvin prove effective on the outside?

This is a big question for Aaron Colvin going forward with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Slotted for the nickel position right now, Colvin could get chances on the outside if guys like Demetrius McCray, Davon House, or Dwayne Gratz struggle or are injured.

How will Colvin perform when he’s placed out there?

Right now, I’m not certain we have an answer. It’s a question that will likely linger as we wait to see Colvin on the outside enough for the sample size to matter.

If he does, however, it will create plenty of interesting debate for coming playing time among a group of talented defensive backs. Right now, Dwayne Gratz appears to be on the outside looking in among his group of three. Would he be the fourth best among four if Colvin was inserted among the outside corner rotation on a regular basis?

I’ll be keeping close note of the limited outside snaps that Colvin gets during his time on the field to see how he’s doing. Hopefully he does it well and proves to be an all-around corner for the Jaguars, but there’s no promise of that. Gus Bradley would like to see that talent from a guy like Colvin, even working him outside and inside during drills earlier in the offseason. How we see defensive coordinator Bob Babich using Colvin may provide the answer for us.
