Jacksonville Jaguars Early Draft Grades – Passing the Test So Far

facebooktwitterreddit

The Jacksonville Jaguars have stayed put in all three rounds so far of the 2015 NFL Draft and selected players who should come in and start right away. Here at Black and Teal, we’ve already given our thoughts and grades on first round pick Dante Fowler Jr., second round pick T.J. Yeldon, and third round pick A.J. Cann, but what do some of the national folks think of the picks? How are the Jaguars doing overall after the first three rounds of the draft?

For the most part, the reactions have been positive. Here are a few snippets from around the web:

NFL.com – Bryan Fischer

"Day 1 grade: ADay 2 grade: B-Overall grade: B+The skinny: Team need? Check. Great player? Check. The Jaguars got a prolific edge rusher who can boost their defense and help chase down division rival Andrew Luck for years to come. You could argue the Jags should have taken Leonard Williams or that a trade down would have been a better move, but Fowler can have an impact early on for a team in need of playmakers. Taking Yeldon with the No. 36 pick was a bit of a reach, but he was a fast-rising prospect and is a complete back who is a great fit for a young Jacksonville offense. Cann should immediately fill a need protecting Bortles and opening holes for Yeldon on the interior of the line."

"36. Jacksonville Jaguars: T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama: A Grade Great job by Charlie Campbell calling this one. Teams were considering T.J. Yeldon at the end of the first round, so the Jaguars had to be thrilled that he made it to them at No. 36. Jacksonville needed to find a running back to upgrade predicted bust Toby Gerhart, and Yeldon was the best player available at the position.67. Jacksonville Jaguars: A.J. Cann, G, South Carolina: B+ Grade A.J. Cann could’ve gone in the second half of the previous round, so there is some value here. I’m all for any pick the Jaguars would’ve made on the offensive line. Blake Bortles had no chance last year behind a putrid offensive line, and Cann should definitely help with the blocking."

SB Nation – Dan Kadar

"1 (3). Dante Fowler, DE/LB, Florida2 (36). T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama3 (67). A.J. Cann, G, South CarolinaIt’s hard to dislike what the Jaguars are doing considering that they likely got three starters with their first three picks in the draft. I still think a different running back would have been a better choice than Yeldon, but it’s something of an interchangeable position. Getting Cann in the third round was a total steal.Overall grade: B+"
