Ndamukong Suh, the dominant defensive tackle for the Detroit Lions, will be testing free agency in 2015.
. This sets Suh up to be the highest paid player in this year’s free agent class, commanding top dollar as a top player should.
His price alone will keep many suitors at bay.
Fortunately for the Jacksonville Jaguars, there’s plenty of money left under the cap for them to target whomever they want.
As mentioned by Daniel Lago, the Jaguars could be players for Suh. By not using the franchise tag, the Lions have opened the door wide for teams like the Jaguars to make a play. CBS’s Jason LaCanfora certainly expects the Jaguars to make a sincere attempt this free agency period.
By bringing in Suh, the Jaguars would instantly improve a defensive line that doesn’t have a lot of premiere talent on it. Defensive tackles Roy Miller and Sen’Derrick Marks are expected to be the cornerstone pieces for the defensive line (and the defense overall) moving forward but if the Jags could land Suh they would have a terrific trio of interior linemen, allowing them to play with Suh’s unique talents and have a rotation superior to almost all other teams in the league.
Obviously there will be other players for Suh. Many of them could have the inside track on the Jags, especially if they are perennial contenders opening up the pocketbook believing themselves to be just a player away from clutching the Lombardi trophy. I believe the Jaguars shouldn’t get lost in the Suh Sweepstakes as they have plenty of other needs to fill during free agency and while there’s plenty of cap room they don’t want to get into a bidding war for an already pricey player who, while being an upgrade, is more of a luxury in a team full of holes.
But at least the opportunity is there.
The door is wide open for a Ndamukong Suh free agency move to Jacksonville. It’ll be exciting to see how it plays out.
