Marqise Lee Flashes Potential in Loss to Colts

Believe it or not, but some good came out of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Wide receiver Marqise Lee flashed some big play potential in the game, though he didn’t get a chance to do much more than that.

More from Black and Teal

Blake Bortles preferred his running backs over his wide receivers on Sunday, but when he went to the wideouts he looked Lee’s way.

Marqise Lee finished the day with three receptions for 52 yards and a healthy 17.3 yards per catch average. He had a fantastic scamper to the one yard line on a 37 yard catch and run through the middle of the field, finally being brought down to prevent the score. Bortles looked his way again from the one yard line but they failed to connect on a difficult Bortles pass, turning the ball over on downs.

The Jaguars are going to miss Allen Robinson’s steady handy and play making ability for the rest of the season, but if Lee can continue to flash potential then the Jaguars may be able to settle down with their depleted wide receiver corps.

Lee would have been able to put in a more solid body of work if the Jaguars had taken some more shots downfield. The play calling was suspect all day as offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch didn’t seem to trust Blake Bortles to toss it deep. Lee was the top beneficiary who was not a running back, snagging three balls.

Hopefully Lee will be able to put together better performances going forward, but looking back at this game I am slightly pleased with what he put in. There is still progress to be made for the rookie and he hasn’t developed as quickly as fellow second-rounder Robinson, but he did show that he has the potential to do some good work for the Jags.
