The Michigan Year

I’m having a tough time finding any quotes from Mallett regarding his decision to go to Michigan and the reason behind, although I have read in the past that it was due to the offense. At Michigan, they ran a pro type offense that produced current Dolphins QB Chad Henne. Mallet, knowing his talents (pocket QB with big arm), went to Michigan to play that style of offense. It fit him.

Ryan Mallet, in his freshman season, was behind incumbent Chad Henne but did have significant contributions in 4 games, starting with 7/15 and 90 yards with 3 TD’s and 0 INT’s against Notre Dame in the third game of the year. The next week he was 16/29 170 yards and 1 INT against Penn State.

Mallet’s totals on the 2007 year: 61/141, 43% complete, 7 TD, 5 INT, 1 rush TD, 892 yds passing

Mallet showed a lot of promise as a true freshman.
