Previewing the ’10 Jaguars roster – The offensive line
By Terry OBrien
Wish we had a Pro-Bowl Guard? Wish we had a guy who could run and pass block? Maybe we do. Have you met Kynan Forney, Jacksonville Jaguar guard? Terry, is he really a pro-bowl guard? Well first alternate in 2005 but chosen to ESPN “Moose” Johnson’s all-lunch pail crew. That counts, doesn’t it? He was the starting Right Guard for Atlanta when they hung 47 points on St. Louis including 327 yards rushing in the Division Championship playoff game. In 2007 he was line blocking for the Falcons when they allowed only one sack all year. Of course, that was Vick at QB, but still, only one sack. Here is where the mystery comes in, after 2007 he dressed but never played and was ineligible for most of the season. He was to be a unrestricted free agent and Atlanta signed him again, but then released him. San Diego gave him a $4.8 million two year contract in February 2009 but then released him at the final cuts before the season. Was he injured? Don’t know. In September 2009, the Jaguars signed him, and he saw action in 3 games.
We don’t know much more about Kynan Forney except this; he is an admitted weight room freak and collects Transformers action figures. He is 6’3″ and around 300 lbs, was drafted in the seventh round and made the starting line-up immediately. What were the reasons to cut him? Why, after the 2007 season, did he disappear from the football field, get re-signed and then released? Is this a personal problem issue? A divorce, something distract him? Is it a desire issue? I don’t know. According to ProFootballFocus, his 2007 saw action in 8 games and his run blocking was either great or he got beat badly. At one time, he had a strong resume of performing on the football field but it has been spotty since late 2007.
For some reason the Jaguars are keeping him. It sounds like a nagging injury issue, doesn’t it?
