2 winners and 5 biggest Jaguars losers from the disappointing loss to Broncos

The Jacksonville Jaguars traveled to Mile High to face off against the Denver Broncos in Week 2. They got off to a strong start and even had a lead going into halftime. However, the Broncos remained unbothered and eventually managed to tie the game. They would then get ahead on the scoreboard when running back Jonah Coleman punched the football into the Jacksonville end zone to make it 20-13.

Although the Jags had one last chance to tie the game, they ultimately failed to come through and lost 20-13. This one definitely stings, as Jacksonville had a realistic opportunity to come out on top but didn't capitalize on their chances.

All that's left for the Jaguars is to watch tape, fix everything that went wrong, and prepare to take on the New England Patriots in Week 3. With this in mind, here are the biggest winners and losers from the loss to Denver.

Winner: Jourdan Lewis, cornerback

The Broncos came close to scoring late in the second quarter. Their offense was marching down the field without trouble. Bo Nix then targeted wide receiver Courtland Sutton for what should have been a touchdown catch. But cornerback Jourdan Lewis was having none of it and picked him off.

That was Lewis' first takeaway from the season. He suffered a foot injury late in 2025 that forced him to miss the last few games of the year. The former Michigan Wolverine reminded everyone just how much of a force he is.

Loser: Montaric Brown, cornerback

Whereas Jourdan Lewis made an impact for Jacksonville, Montaric Brown gave up a 41-yard reception when he was covering Jaylen Waddle. The silver lining is that Denver only managed to get a field goal out of the big play Brown gave up.

Later in the game, Brown missed a tackle that led to a 16-yard completion by Waddle, so it's fair to say that he had his fair share of struggles throughout the game.

On a related note, Waddle had only one catch for two yards in the season opener, but he shredded the Jacksonville secondary, reeling in eight catches for 138 yards. Defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile will have his work cut out for him when he shows up to his office.

Loser: Brian Thomas Jr., wide receiver

For a brief moment, it seemed like Brian Thomas Jr. was going to end up in the loser column after failing to come down with an easily catchable pass at the midpoint of the first quarter. But then, No. 7 made up for it by catching his next three targets for 40 yards. However, he later had another drop in the fourth quarter when the game was tied 13-13.

Had Thomas caught it, the Jags might have been able to get ahead on the scoreboard. In the end, though, Cam Little missed his field goal attempt on his drive, so Thomas wasn't the only player at fault for failing to put up points. Nevertheless, his drops certainly came back to haunt the Jags.

Moreover, Thomas' inconsistency and drops will once again be a main topic of discussion.

Loser: Cam Little, kicker

The game was tied 13-13 late in the fourth quarter. Cam Little could've given Jacksonville a three-point lead with a 54-yard attempt. The former Arkansas Razorback hasn't had trouble making that kind of kicks in the past, so that field goal seemed automatic. He failed it.

Little's miss turned outto be costly as it gave Denver short field position.

Winner: Parker Washington, wide receiver

At this point, you may be tired of watching Parker Washington pop up in the winners column, but he keeps making plays when the Jaguars call his name. It was no different against the Broncos.

Although the Jags came up short, Washington made the most of his targets, catching eight passes for 97 yards.

Loser: Travis Hunter, cornerback

The plan was for Travis Hunter to play defense full-time so he could hone his skills at corner and reach his potential. Against the Broncos, though, the former Heisman Trophy winner was outmatched. Aside from giving up a key completion to tight end Evan Engram and was later flagged for pass interference in the game-defining drive in which the Broncos got ahead 20-13.

When the Jags needed him to come up clutch, Hunter failed to deliver.

Loser: Trevor Lawrence, quarterback

Dating back to Week 10 of the 2025 season, Trevor Lawrence has played like a top-10 quarterback. He got off to a strong start to 2026 with an electrifying showing against the Cleveland Browns. The expectation was that No. 16 was going to build off of it but instead came flat against Denver.

Sure, the Broncos rattled Lawrence throughout the game, and Lawrence barely had much time to throw. That said, his puzzling interception late in the third quarter that Riley Moss picked up turned out to be costly, as Denver had a touchdown off the interception.

Lawrence should bounce back, but he certainly was underwhelming in Week 2.
