Allen Robinson: among top-50 wide receivers

Allen Robinson has just one season under his belt. It wasn’t even a complete season if we’re being honest. Yet he was so impressive and his offseason work has been so impressive that he is turning heads as his sophomore campaign looms near. He’s a solid young wide receiver, but is he one of the best in the business?

According to Joe Soriano over at NFL Spin Zone, he is. Here’s what Soriano had to say about Robinson in his power rankings of the top-50 wide receivers:

"Thanks to his frame, speed, and exceptional athletic traits, Robinson is the type of young receiver who could make a massive sophomore leap, especially since he’s guaranteed to receive more opportunities than his 81 targets last year. He looked less raw as a route-runner than I expected, which means that improvements from Bortles and a bigger role have him on tap for a likely 1,000-yard season."

He also notes that Robinson’s first career year was cut short by injury and he would have put on more of a show if that hadn’t been the case. All of that is too true.

The Allen Robinson hype train is very real this offseason, but is it too early to include him among the top-50? Soriano has Robinson ranked 34th, which isn’t particularly high, but it ahead of some players like Kelvin Benjamin, Mike Wallace, and Kendall Wright. There are a lot of receivers in the NFL and being ahead of some of the more household names is huge for the second-year Jags receiver.

I love what Robinson is putting together for the Jags and it will be massive for him to come out and make Blake Bortles look good. He’s going to be a key supporting piece for a Jaguars offense that finally seems primed to compete. If he can manage to help spark the offense along with T.J. Yeldon, Julius Thomas, and Bortles, then Robinson certainly deserves to be among the top-50 in the league.

I think he’ll get the Jags there for sure. Hats off to Soriano for jumping on the hype train and helping propel it further!
