2015 NFL Draft: Jaguars Select Dante Fowler Jr. Third Overall
By Luke Sims
Dante Fowler Jr. is coming to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags selected him with the third overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft, immediately bolstering their pass rush.
The Jags made the pass rushing LEO position a priority for the 2015 NFL Draft, and bringing Dante Fowler to the team is a clear indication that the Jags are serious about solving their issues at the position.
Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell stuck to his guns and got the player he thought was best, just as he did in the 2014 NFL Draft when picking quarterback Blake Bortles third overall. Caldwell has had mixed results with his drafts, but by selecting Fowler he may finally have a superstar on his hands.
Dante Fowler is the preeminent pass rusher in the 2015 NFL Draft and bringing him in instantly makes the Jaguars a more imposing defense. He had success at Florida, he has impressive athleticism, and he’s ready to be productive from day one.
We’re excited to see Dante Fowler brought to the Jaguars and think he will be an immediate fit with the team! This first round selection caps off a great offseason for the Jaguars where they spent liberally at a number of positions to help shore up the roster. Caldwell and head coach Gus Bradley will be entering their third season in a massive rebuild, hoping to see positive growth for the team. Fowler should help see that rebuild finally bear fruit and continue to help the Jaguars thrive in the years after 2015.
While the Jaguars really couldn’t go wrong with the many options available at the top of the 2015 NFL Draft, this selection was a wise move by the front office, marrying value and need well.
