Oakland Raiders – Why it could occur:

I don’t want to list Oakland. I don’t like piling on when it happens to us and I don’t want to do it to Oakland. But here are the facts; Oakland has a horribly difficult schedule. Oakland had 4 wins last year; two of them were against the Chiefs and one against the Jaguars.  The win against Jacksonville was bogus.  If the Chiefs stiffen up this year and the Jaguars play up, there are no easy games on their schedule.

Dennis Allen is the youngest head coach in the NFL in his second season. A guy we know, Greg Olsen has been promoted to Offensive Coordinator, his first time. He was our QB coach for Blaine Gabbert. Jason Tarver is a new defensive coordinator and first time as an NFL defensive coordinator. He came from Stanford.  There is more inexperience than experience in this coaching staff. Tony Sparano is the offensive line coach. I think that is falling below the dignity line for Tony, but maybe deserved.

Matt Flynn takes over as QB. I am glad he gets to play. I don’t know if he is an upgrade to Carson Palmer. I don’t think Carson had much to work with and Matt doesn’t either. They did sign Josh Cribbs and the offensive line isn’t too bad for pass blocking. It is just that the new unproven coaches and the lingering feeling of being doomed and then add in a very rough schedule and the Raiders could sink!
