Trevor Lawrence’s NFL Top 100 spot will leave Jaguars fans scratching their heads

• That's confusing the say the least.

While Trevor Lawrence flashed in past years, he struggled to find consistency throughout his career. That's why the Jacksonville Jaguars made it their priority to hire a head coach to get the most out of him when they dismissed Doug Pederson in 2025. They chose Liam Coen, and it turned out to be the right call.

With Coen at the helm, Lawrence played like a top-10 quarterback to end 2025 and even garnered a few votes in the MVP race. Not surprisingly, he popped up on the NFL's top 100 list. That said, his spot in the countdown stood out, and not for the right reasons.

Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence ranks 61st on the NFL's top 100 list

Every year since 2011, the NFL has put together a list of the top 100 players. In his six-year career, Lawrence has popped three times. He popped up at No. 62 in 2026 when the league revealed Nos. 70 to 61.

Safety Xavier McKinney (Green Bay Packers), quarterback Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens), wide receiver Courtland Sutton (Denver Broncos), linebacker Jordyn Brooks (Miami Dolphins), wide receiver Jake London (Atlanta Falcons), linebacker Roquan Smith (Baltimore Ravens), wide receiver Chris Olave (New Orleans Saints), and safety Kyle Hamilton (Baltimore Ravens) appeared before Lawrence. Safety Kevin Byard landed one spot ahead of him at No. 61.

Lawrence got off to a slow start to the season, but once he had a better hold of Liam Coen's scheme, the most complex he's had to learn in his career, he took off, completing 60.9 percent of his throws for 1,601 yards with 15 touchdowns and just four interceptions. No. 16 also racked up a career-best 38 total touchdowns.

Lawrence was never going to appear in 2021, the year the Jaguars drafted him first overall. He had an underwhelming rookie season, mainly because Urban Meyer was his head coach, so he wasn't going to make the list in 2022. The former Clemson Tiger debuted in 2023 at No. 96 and got the No. 94 slot one year later.

Because Lawrence struggled in 2024 and eventually suffered a season-ending injury, he didn't make an appearance in 2025.

The NFL top 100 wil raise eyebrows among Jaguars fans

It was refreshing to see Trevor Lawrence move up several spots in the ranking. Slowly but surely, he's beginning to get the recognition he deserves. On the other hand, his place in the top 100 deserves scrutiny. After all, can you really say with a straight face that Kevin Byard is a better player at his position or more valuable?

No disrespect to Byard, who's been a pretty good safety dating back to his days with the Tennessee Titans. However, Lawrence is the better of the two. Similarly, it was odd to see Lamar Jackson rank 69th.

Leaving aside that Jackson is better than Lawrence, he provides much more value to the Ravens than either Chris Olave or Courtland Sutton to their respective teams. Make no mistake, both of them are fine receivers, but ranking them higher than Jackson was puzzling. Heck, teammates Kyle Hamilton and Roquan Smith got a higher spot on the list.

Circling back to Lawrence, there's a chance that other Jaguars will appear in the countdown, and that's the thing, the Jaguars have several talented players, but their quarterback is the best of the bunch.

So either Trevor Lawrence was the highest-ranked Jaguar, or he was the only player who will make the top 100. Neither scenario makes sense.
