Aside from the circumstances that led to his hiring, Liam Coen got the spotlight in his introduction as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars because of the way his Duval chant came out. And it wasn't that long ago that Trevor Lawrence was asked to do an impression of his new head coach.

Someone caught up with Lawrence and asked him to recreate Coen's Duval chant. Below is the video of it.

For reference, here's the original that took place during the introductory press conference.

And here's how it usually sounds.

For the sake of transparency, Coen had tried another Duval and it came out fine.

Circling back to Lawrence's impression, he asked the interviewer to give his coach a break, noting that he would eventually nail it. As you can see in the other clips, it didn't take him long.

Trevor Lawrence should enjoy a surge in production under Liam Coen

Trevor Lawrence could definitely benefit from a fresh start. After an impressive 2022 campaign, he's been hampered by injuries the past two years. Moreover, his supporting cast has been less than ideal, which put additional weight on his shoulders to deliver. Add inadequate coaching and it's easy to see why the former Clemson Tiger regressed last season. Fortunately, the Jacksonville Jaguars made it a priority during their search for a head coach to find someone who can get the best out of him.

The Jags settled on Liam Coen, who helped Baker Mayfield have a career season in 2024 and turned the Tampa Bay Buccaneers into one of the best in the league. He'll now oversee a whole team, not just one side of the ball, but the Jacksonville offense should see a significant improvement next season.

Regarding Lawrence, Coen was efusive of his praise during a 1-on-1 interview, pointing out that he's thrilled to work with a quarterback as talented as him.

"Trevor's an extremely talented football player. He's a quarterback in the sake of the word, right?" Coen told J.P. Shadrick of the team's official website during a sitdown. "When you watch his purest throw him and that looks like what you really kind of want to build in a lab in a lot of ways. Tall, big, strong, athletic, those are unbelievable things. And then you start to get to know him a little bit."

Coen continued, "You start to hear the humility and what he wants to bring to this city and to this organization. That's exciting, right? And that's where you looked at it. Like, 'man's willing.' He's very much so capable he's shown to do so before. Now, how do we help him around right? How do we help around him? Be better in the run game. Defend it a little bit better to make sure that, hey, we can maximize him to be at his best when his best is required."

Below is the full exchange, which took place after Coen's first week on the job.

Coen knows that he alone cannot steer the ship in the right direction, so he's hired coaches that will help him with Lawrence and the offense: Spencer Whipple as the quarterbacks coach, and Grant Udinski as the offensive coordinator. Both of them have thrived in previous stops and should enjoy similar success in Jacksonville.

The bottom line is that Trevor Lawrence enters 2025 with a lot to prove, but the Jacksonville Jaguars wanted to ensure he was in a position to succeed by hiring Liam Coen as the head coach.
