Travon Walker is already rewarding the Jaguars' trust in him

• It hasn't taken him long.

The Jacksonville Jaguars checked a massive box in the offseason when they extended Trevon Walker, giving him a four-year deal worth $110 million that ensures he'll stay in Duval through 2030. Even though the former Georgia Bulldog is coming off a down year, the decision was a no-brainer.

Walker logged just 3.5 sacks in 2025 after posting a combined 20.5 the prior two years. However, some of that drop-off stemmed from injuries. Now that he's healthy again, he's made the most of the offseason to get back on track.

Travon Walker has shown progress throughout the Jaguars offseason program

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated shared his notes about the Jaguars ahead of training camp and says Travon Walker is showing early signs of his growth as a pass rusher following his injury-marred 2025.

"One other note on the Jags' No. 1 pick in 2022: Travon Walker, now heading into his fifth year, showed signs that he's taken another step as a pass rusher through the spring," Breer noted. "Which is something to file away, given how the current regime rewarded him with an extension."

Breer's remarks echo head coach Liam Coen's praise of Walker. Earlier this year, Coen asked the fifth-year pass rusher to dominate practice like All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald did, and he's risen to the challenge, thus far.

In case you were wondering just how much injuries affected Walker, Dan Griffis of Action News Jax broke down his get-off throughout 2025:

• 0.84s, Weeks 1 through 3
• 0.92s Weeks 4 through 18

The difference may seem marginal but it definitely had an impact as Walker had two of his sacks before he got hurt, and another one late in the year when he was getting healthier. With a better bill of health and another season under Anthony Campanile, the Thomaston, Georgia native should have no trouble posting a monster campaign.

Why the Jaguars are high on Travon Walker

Ever since the new Jaguars regime took over in 2025, they made it clear that Travon Walker was part of their long-term plan. The fact that he got a long-term deal shows that the team's brass saw his down 2025 as an outlier rather than a reflection of the player he truly is.

Now, this doesn't mean that Walker is close to becoming an All-Pro, but he doesn't have to be one to meet expectations. That said, something like 11 sacks seems reasonable. Heck, nobody would bat an eye if No. 44 sets new personal bests in several categories.

Travon Walker is somewhat flying under the radar, but that doesn't mean the Jaguars don't expect big things from him. Quite the contrary, and he's on his way to prove that extending him was the right call.
