After an arduous offseason recovery, Travis Hunter is back with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the start of the offseason. Even better, he's already at full strength and has shown no limitations in practice.

One of the reasons for Hunter's encouraging start to training camp is that he hit the gym during his recovery from the knee injury he sustained in 2025. Now that he's back on the field, the payoff is obvious.

Hunter put on 10 pounds of muscle during the offseason. While he wasn't necessarily scrawny, the added weight will help him better withstand the rigours of playing two ways at the NFL level.

Travis Hunter is 10 pounds heavier for Jaguars training camp

Following Day 3 of training camp, Travis Hunter met with reporters. He talked about his added weight, noting that he feels lighter even after gaining 10 pounds of mass.

Oh yeah, I put on 10 pounds. I was a small guy coming in," Hunter told reporters (14:15 mark). "Everybody was like 'Gain weight, gain weight.' Coaches were like, 'Hey, play at whatever weight you happy at.' So me just coming in and putting on them pounds and being like, ah, I was scared at first. You know, I'm like, 'Ah, dang, I ain't never played this weight. I'm gonna feel heavy, not gonna be able to do what I do.'"

Hunter continued, "But training and being able to put those months in, not just on the grass but in the weight room too, just putting in after work, it made me feel lighter on my feet when I finally touched the grass. So I'm just happy to be out this way and continue to play this way."

Later in the exchange, Hunter said that he feels faster, adding that his next goal is to hit 23 MPH on game day.

"I didn't have no standard. You know, just going out there and running, seeing how fast I get. I'm like, hey, 21.5. Oh yeah, I definitely got 22. Then I hit 22, it just went 22.6. So me hitting 22.6 definitely had me on the rise and ready. I'm trying to hit 23 now."

Someone told Hunter during the conversation that only Tyreek Hill and Raheem Mostert have been able to reach that speed in games. The former Colorado Buffalo would join a very exclusive club if he pulls it off.

Travis Hunter is off to an encouraging start to Jaguars training camp

Travis Hunter is off to a somewhat quiet start to training camp, while some of his teammates have stolen the spotlight, but that's understandable. After all, this is the first time he's on the grass since he hurt his knee in November 2025. The last thing the Jaguars want is to see him re-injure his knee, so they're not putting too much on his plate yet. Instead, they're progressively increasing his workload.

As of Day 3 of training camp, Hunter has logged 39 total snaps (24 on defense and 15 on offense), according to Michael DiRocco of ESPN. That's a solid amount of reps, and his playing time will only continue to ramp up.

Travis Hunter is quietly laying out the groundwork to have a breakout season. Nobody should be shocked once he becomes the player the Jags envisioned when they drafted him second overall in 2025.
