After spending months rehabbing the knee injury that ended his rookie season, Travis Hunter is back with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He practiced for the first time in eight months and didn't waste any time reminding everyone why he went second overall in the 2025 draft.

Although it was the first day of training camp, Hunter had no limitations. This was an encouraging development because it wasn't certain he was going to be a full go. He was.

Hunter warmed up with the wide receivers and later joined the defensive backs. Throughout the whole practice, he looked like the player who was beginning to figure things out just before he got hurt last year.

Travis Hunter seems to be at full strength for Jaguars training camp

By watching Hunter practice, you wouldn't have guessed he spent the past few months recovering from a serious injury. Heck, head coach Liam Coen says he was pleased to see him practice with no fear.

For his part, Trevor Lawrence says he's hyped up to see Hunter back, noting that their rapport is still there even though the two-way star just got back to practice.

"Yeah, obviously today was the first time in a while we've gotten a live team rep, you know, throwing, and we got some working this summer. So I feel like the chemistry's still there," Lawrence told the local media after Day 1 of training camp (13:26 mark). "Got to try to keep working it more and more. Kind of missed the throw behind him a little today, but just good to see him back out there, and he looks good."

Lawrence continued, "He's flying around. Seeing him play both sides is just-it's always pretty cool. So he looks great. So just excited he's back on the field."

In case you were wondering what kind of workload Hunter had on Day 1, Michel DiRocco of ESPN has you covered. He reports the former Colorado Buffalo logged 12 snaps, eight on defense and four on offense. That's on track with the team's plan to have him play cornerback full-time next season.

Travis Hunter is making strides in Jaguars training camp

There's no doubt that returning from injury and practicing at full strength is a big first step. That said, Travis Hunter still has his work cut out. John Shipley of Sports Illustrated noted that the former Heisman Trophy winner didn't make any big plays, noting that he had a pass on offense that fell incomplete.

Working in Hunter's favor is that it's just the first day of practice, so getting acclimated was the main focus. If he's consistent, the plays will follow. It's also worth noting that the West Palm Beach, Florida native also had to hone his skills, and training camp will allow him to do just that.

All things considered, Travis Hunter had a good day on Day 1 of Jaguars training camp, but he'll need to keep grinding to meet the expectations in Year 2.
