Throughout the offseason, Travis Hunter has gotten the spotlight because he's been seen dancing between reps and enjoying practice. The Jacksonville Jaguars love the energy he brings. Similarly, most fans seem to be bothered by it. After all, he's just being himself. However, there are a few who aren't thrilled about it and would rather see him stand still. Teammate Jarrian Jones recently said that the two-way star can dance as much as he wants as long as he's around.
Jones had a one-on-one exchange with Jamal St. Cyr of News4Jax after Day 1 of mandatory minicamp and said that dancing isn't for him, but if anyone has an issue with Hunter, they'll have to deal with him.
"Yeah, I told him I'm not a dancer. You know, as me being the big brother, you little brother, but I'm gonna let you dance," Jones said. "And just anybody that do something to you, say something to you, I got you. I'm gonna let him handle all that dancing."
Also in the exchange, Jones told St. Cyr that he's known the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner since they were teenagers, and it's exciting to see how far he's come.
"It's funny, because I was with him when he was like, 15, 16. You know what I'm saying? He was committed to Florida State, so he used to come up, stay with us all the time, chill with us all the time. So I've been knowing Travis since before he went to college, like, I knew he was going to Jackson State before everybody kind of knew. Like, it's funny, because I did see him like he was young, Travis, and I see him now, and he's actually playing both ways. It's a sight to see, for real," Jones said.
Jones was a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He mostly lined up in the slot as a rookie and fared well, registering one interception and six passes defensed. Moreover, the former Florida State Seminole didn't allow a single touchdown reception. Now in Year 2, he's been getting reps in the boundaries.
With Jourdan Lewis in the mix, Jones could line up in the perimeter, but the team's brass values their versatility, so both of them could see time inside and outside next season.
Jarrian Jones has proven to be a great teammate with the Jaguars
When Azeez Al-Shair laid a vicious hit on Trevor Lawrence last season, cornerback Jarrian Jones immediately came to his defense, showing that he has his teammates' backs. His feistiness stood out because he was one of the few players on the Jacksonville Jaguars players that looked out for No. 16. By saying that he also has Travis Hunter's back, he's showing that the scuffle against the Houston Texans wasn't a one-time thing.
When the Jaguars hired general manager James Gladtone, he said that the Jags were looking for intangible-rich players to fill the roster. What he meant was players who are tough both physically and mentally. Based on his play and actions, Jones most definitely fits the bill.
And while it's great to see Hunter spread his contagious energy throughout practice, it's also great to see Jones set the tone with his plucky attitude. Regardless of how things play out in 2025, you can definitely tell that the Jaguars are building an identity.
