The Jacksonville Jaguars have their starting quarterback in Trevor Lawrence; no one would ever deny that. He's never quite been able to have a breakout season, having struggled through injuries, repeated coaching turnover, and a lack of offensive weapons to work with. This season, however, that all seems to have changed, and there is good reason for fans to be optimistic that this is the year Lawrence shows how good he can truly be.
Despite that, there is still concern to be had surrounding the Jaguars at quarterback. Having a franchise QB is vital for any team, but there also needs to be a reliable backup who can fill in when needed, and still be capable of winning games. So far, Nick Mullens is QB2, and judging by his recent performance, it's not looking good. He had one great throw in the preseason game against the Saints, but otherwise looked awful, including throwing an interception. It's not the kind of performance fans want to see, considering if Lawrence is injured - and that may well be a possibility, given his history - Mullens would be taking over.
And let's be honest: from what we've seen Mullens at QB1 would mean a quick death for the Jaguars' playoff hopes. This weekend's preseason game made it clear that more depth at quarterback is needed, and the answer just may lie with the New York Giants.
The Jaguars should consider Jameis Winston for QB2
Currently a third-stringer, Giants quarterback Jameis Winston got a lot of attention for his performance this weekend, easily tossing a dime to Dalen Cambre.

Rumors are swirling now about teams being interested in trading for Winston, and the Jaguars should be one of them.
Now, to be clear, Winston - despite the hype from this one amazing throw - is not a QB1. He has a good arm, is known to be a strong leader in the locker room, and can make explosive plays, but he's also inconsistent and prone to throwing interceptions. But he would still be an upgrade from Nick Mullens, and with Liam Coen as head coach, who knows? Should Lawrence end up sidelined, Winston may be able to prove he can lead a team after all.
