The Jacksonville Jaguars' 2026 NFL Draft class has been the subject of either mockery or severe interrogation over the last few months, but the performances of players like sixth-round rookie Josh Cameron could change hearts and minds.

Cameron was reportedly on the end of what would have been a Trevor Lawrence touchdown throw in his most recent training camp practice, with John Shipley noting that he has continued to make plays as a vertical threat. Considering the fact that being a downfield weapon wasn't really his game at Baylor, Cameron may already be developing.

Right after both Nate Boerkircher and Emmanuel Pregnon looked the part in a preseason matchup against the New Orleans Saints, it appears as though Cameron is gradually taking the steps forward he needs to become the underneath playmaker Jacksonville envisioned he could be at his best. Perhaps folks were too hard on James Gladstone.

Cameron, like Pregnon, was one of only a few picks in this class deemed to be terrific value for Jacksonville, as many analysts believed he could have gone as high as the third or fourth round. Cameron, who is listed at 6-1 and over 220 pounds, has many of the same traits that got the 49ers interested in Deebo Samuel way back when.

Cameron is a physical runner who can make plays with the ball in his hands and has already shown to be a weapon when going over the middle. The next step in his evolution as a player is being able to run a more complex pro route tree, and he appears to be well on his way in that regard.

Cameron, who caught 19 touchdowns during his final two seasons in Waco, could be a sign that this coaching staff has earned the benefit of the doubt as far as wide receivers are concerned.

In addition to Cameron, sixth-round wide receiver CJ Williams has made some plays despite virtually no major NFL Draft analysts grading him as a draftable player. All signs point to the Jaguars keeping six wide receivers, Travis Hunter included, on the roster in Week 1, and both Cameron and Williams are making strong cases for inclusion.

Tight end Tanner Koziol has looked the part as well, making just as many big plays as second-round tight end Boerkircher. Gladstone's draft strategy was high-risk, yet high-reward in 2026, but things seem to be coming up aces, with role players like Cameron performing well.
