The Jacksonville Jaguars have won 12 games for the first time in 20 years. Liam Coen is a legitimate candidate for NFL Coach of the Year, and Trevor Lawrence is having a career season. Oh, and their defense, led by Anthony Campanile, is among the best in the NFL.
This is a long-winded way to say that Coen's first year with the Jags has been a resounding success. But don't tell Richard Sherman, who's doing his best to avoid giving them praise. The issue is that he's running out of excuses to acknowledge that Jacksonville is on a hot streak, so he just came up with a baffling take to avoid doing so.
Richard Sherman cannot fathom the Jaguars being any good
Following the win over the Colts game, Twitter user @twisted_tee_ let Richard Sherman know that Trevor Lawrence is red hot aheading into the playoffs. But instead of conceding the Jaguars quarterback is playing at a high level, the former NFL corner stated that Jacksonville needs to win the Super Bowl to become relevant.
Lol when this franchise makes a SB game we will care about it.
— Richard Sherman (@RSherman_25) December 29, 2025
So now, making the playoffs won't be enough to praise the Jaguars. They must win the Super Bowl, and maybe Sherman will consider accepting that they may be good.
When @twisted_tee_ pointed out that he had never seen such a biased commentator, Sherman wasn't afraid to accept that he didn't care for the Jags or their fans.
This has been the latest instance of Sherman not willing to concede that the Jaguars or Trevor Lawrence are any good. Now, he would be right to criticize them early in the season because they weren't playing nearly as well as they are right now. But that's not the case.
Sherman is stubbornly holding onto an opinion for the sake of it. Meanwhile, most other analysts are giving the Jaguars their due. Which begs the question, why isn't he? You would need to ask him directly.

The Jaguars are one of the hottest teams in the NFL, whether Richard Sherman accepts it or not
Aside from the Jaguars, the rival Houston Texans may be one of the top teams to end the season. The Denver Broncos are also playing well. Ditto the San Francisco 49ers. Yet, Richard Sherman doesn't set the bar nearly as high for any of them as he does with Jacksonville. And that's fine. Nobody should be forced to root for a team.
The issue is that in the meantime, Sherman will keep moving the goalpost to avoid giving the Jaguars any kind of praise, and while doing so, he'll lose credibility as a fair and balanced observer. Now, if you like his comment, more power to you. You do you, but you can, at the same time, accept that his takes are biased.
Ultimately, the Jaguars probably won't be paying too much attention to what Richard Sherman says. Instead, they'll keep their focus on their Week 18 opponent, the Tennessee Titans. And once they take care of business. They'll turn their attention to the playoffs, where they prove doubters wrong for overlooking them throughout the year.
