With general manager James Gladstone calling the shots, the Jacksonville Jaguars have consistently shown an affinity for making trades to address the roster. Just before the loss to the Seattle Seahawks, they acquired cornerback Greg Newsome in return for Tyson Campbell. Since then, they've made a handful of contract restructures that make you think they could make additional moves before the November 4 deadline.
While Jacksonville probably has bigger needs (defensive tackle, pass rush, tight end), the wide receiver corps could also use help, and the perfect trade target may await on a silver platter.
The Jaguars should keep tabs on Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers
Speculation is always rampant ahead of the trade deadline, and in the Las Vegas Raiders' case, it looks like wide receiver Jakobi Meyers could be available. The speculation stems from the fact that he's entering a contract year and hasn't been able to secure an extension.
Meyers had a career season in 2024, registering 87 receptions for 1,027 yards with four touchdowns. However, he's far from a one-year wonder. The former North Carolina State Wolfpack hauled in 280 passes for 3,206 yards with 16 touchdowns.
After going undrafted in 2019, Meyers signed with the New England Patriots. He followed his former offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, to the Raiders in 2022. There's now a new regime in Las Vegas, one that inherited the seventh-year receiver, which is why he doesn't appear to be part of the team's long-term plans, and why he could land on the trade block.
Heading into Week 7, Meyers has 29 receptions for 29 yards with 329 yards but has only tallied 101 yards the past three games. Couple that with the fact that he's missed practice, and it's easy to connect the dots.
Why the Jaguars must call the Raiders to inquire about Jakobi Meyers
The New England Patriots seem to be the most logical landing spot for Jakobi Meyers because of his prior connection to the team. However, it wouldn't hurt the Jacksonville Jaguars to do due diligence and give the Las Vegas Raiders a call.
You could make the case that the Jags already have Brian Thomas Jr., Parker Washington, and Dyami Brown in the mix. However, the current group has left a bit to be desired. Thomas has played much better after a slow start, but still hasn't been as dominant as he was in his rookie season. Hunter, for his part, has yet to get a full grasp of the nuances of playing receiver at the pro level.
Brown and Washington, on the other hand, have been solid contributors, but Meyers is better than both of them. When you take into account that Jacksonville has nine selections on Day 3 of next year's draft, a trade is a possibility, not a likely one, but most definitely doable.
Again, the team's brass may be more incentivized to trade for help at tight end or the defensive line, but Meyer could most definitely give a boost to the offense.
