The Jacksonville Jaguars are 4-2 entering Week 7, and they’re taking the show international on Sunday, facing off against the Los Angeles Rams in London. The NFL fans in England will be delighted to a matchup of two 4-2 teams, and they will also get to witness the Travis Hunter experience. According to Jaguars head coach Liam Coen’s recent comments, the fans could be in for a treat with Hunter.
On Wednesday, Coen told the media Jacksonville will give Hunter a bigger role on offense in Week 7 against the Rams. While the two-way rookie has made a few splash plays at receiver, he hasn’t been a top priority in the offense. Coen says that’s about to change, as the Jaguars are being intentional about getting the ball in his hands more.
Jaguars plan to get Travis Hunter more involved on offense in Week 7
Fans and media members will agree this is a good idea, and one they have been asking for since the season started. The reason why is that something electric seems to happen every time the rookie touches the ball. Unfortunately, those touches haven’t been that frequent, with Hunter having a limited role on offense as he balances playing both receiver and corner.
In six games this season, Hunter has been targeted 31 times, catching the ball 20 times for 197 yards. However, he consistently flashes skills that show he’s capable of much more than the modest production he has. From taking short passes and making a couple of defenders miss, to skying up over multiple defenders to pull in a pass, Hunter needs the ball in his hands more.
The Jaguars, who have been winning in spite of that, recognize that, and are committed to making it happen. It’s unclear if the larger offensive role will mean diminished snaps defensively for Hunter, but it should mean more big plays for the young playmaker.
