Weather forecast will give the Jaguars an edge in Week 2 matchup vs. the Browns
Playing football in Florida in September is a hassle. It's extremely humid, which makes hot days feel like a blaze. Then again, teams from the state, like the Jacksonville Jaguars, are used to playing under those conditions. That's why the weather shouldn't be an issue in their Week 2 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
Per NFL Weather, it will be 83 degrees Fahrenheit at kickoff but it will feel like 90 degrees because of a 77 percent level. There will also be 16-mph winds throughout the day and a 36 percent chance of precipitation. Last but not least, a thunderstorm could take place during the game.
The Jaguars had a similar weather forecast when they played the Miami Dolphins in Week 2. Ultimately, conditions weren't an issue and the game proceeded as expected. However, things could be different in Week 2.
Back in Week 1, the season opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens had to be delayed 20 minutes because of a storm. The protocol asks for players to leave the field until is safe to return. Then, they must warm up and get ready for the game.
In the season opener, the Chiefs and Ravens faced no further setbacks once the game began but every game is different. Now, it's not a given that there will be a storm or that it will rain. However, you should always expect the unexpected, and the Jaguars must be prepared for it.
Fortunately for them, they have the personnel to take advantage of less-than-ideal weather conditions.
The Jaguars could use heavy doses of Travsi Etienne and Tank Bigsby in Week 2
The Jacksonville Jaguars have built their offense around Trevor Lawrence, and rightly so. Besides showing the ability to make all kinds of passes, No. 16 has proven he can deliver in the clutch. Having said that, making him throw in Week 2 if it rains may not be an ideal strategy. When you factor in the wind, the coaching staff may turn to the backfield duo of Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby.
Etienne is coming off an underwhelming outing against the Miami Dolphins but he's been a key cog on offense the past two years and he'll continue to get the ball. If Jacksonville chooses to, it can give him a heavy workload and wear down the Cleveland defense. Having Bigsby around could make that strategy work.
A third-round pick in 2023, Bigsby was supposed to give the Jaguars a 1-2 punch last year. Instead, he struggled and was even a liability on offense, making mistakes that led to turnovers. However, the Auburn Tiger has bounced back and become a playmaker. Against the Dolphins, he had 13 carries for 71 yards, which could incentivize the coaching staff to call his number often in Week 2.
Ultimately, it may not rain in Week 2. That would allow the Jaguars to lean on Trevor Lawrence to beat the Browns. But if it does, they have a pair of capable running backs who can thrive under less-than-ideal weather.
