Rookie Brian Thomas Jr. has gotten the spotlight this offseason because he's expected to become a playmaker for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fellow wide receiver Gabe Davis isn't nearly getting as much attention as his first-year counterpart but he'll also play a key for them in 2024. Already, he's developed a rapport with Trevor Lawrence and their connection should be one fans witness often next season.

Davis met with the local media after Day 11 of training camp and said that he and his quarterback must put in the time if they want to have a productive connection next season.

"We got to put the time in," Davis said when asked how valuable the non-coach moments are. "Me and Trevor just starting to go together this year. You got to build that chemistry, put in the extra time if you want to win."

Earlier in the exchange, Davis said that he feels great about the Jaguars' wide receiver corps.

"It's good. The receivers are great. It's awesome to be in this in this room. Love all the guys in there, and then with Trevor, yeah, we're continuing to work, continue to keep trying to build that chemistry each and every day. I feel like we got our slants down pat. He hits me where I want him every single time. And our slim routes are really successful. Other than that keep going and keep trying to get on the same page," Davis said.

A fifth-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2020, Davis signed a three-year deal worth $39 million in free agency. Originally seen as a potential Calvin Ridley replacement, he was in reality an upgrade over Zay Jones, who dealt with injuries last year and was waived after the draft.

Davis never reached the 800-yard mark in Buffalo and has never caught 50 receptions in his career but he averaged 16.7 yards per catch. His big play ability will give the Jacksonville offense a new dimension and he'll reap the rewards of catching passes from Lawrence.

Jones himself and Christian Kirk had career seasons with Lawrence behind center. The same applies to tight end Evan Engram. Davis could enjoy a similar surge in production, even if he doesn't reach the 1,000-yard milestone.

And here's the veteran receiver's full remarks to the media after Day 11 of training camp.

Gabe Davis was limited early in the offseason because he was recovering from a knee sprain he suffered in the 2023 finale. The good news is that he had ample time to get back to full strength, so there was no rush to press him into action. Now that he's 100 percent, he's quickly working on his connection with Lawrence.

During the exchange with the local beat, the Ferndinanda Beach native said that he's a full-go and will be ready if his number is called in the preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, "I feel pretty good. Did everything today, all team reps, and that last, like, I don't know, 12/15-play drive, whatever it was. I was in there the whole time, it felt good. So the body's been great."

So far, Davis has had a promising training camp, and nothing suggests it won't carry into the preseason and later the regular season.

One of the biggest issues surrounding Davis' time with the Bills is that he wasn't even heavily targeted even though he was one of their top weapons on offense. He'll be able to prove in Jacksonville that concerns were exaggerated. Already, he's putting in the work to make it happen.
