While cutdown day is still a few weeks away, the Jacksonville Jaguars are beginning to work on their 53-man initial roster. Already, they've moved on from a handful of players and added others to see what they bring to the table. On top of that, the injury has struck in training camp.

Some players have missed practice with minor injuries (e.g. Cam Robinson) but others may be out for an extended period of time. Safety Andrew Wingard and tight end Patrick Murtagh are among the most notable ones, but left guard Ezra Cleveland could be out for a while with a leg injury. Their potential absence will have an impact on how the front office builds the roster.

Apart from injuries, the Jaguars' brass can do a better assessment of players now that they're wearing pads. To nobody's surprise, a few offseason standouts have struggled now that they have had to go against competition.

So this begs the question, who's seen their stock take a hit in recent days either because of injuries or less-than-ideal performance at the midpoint of training camp? These three come to mind.

Gregory Junior, cornerback

It feels like forever but it was only last year when head coach Doug Pederson called cornerback Gregory Junior the most improved player of training camp. A sixth-round pick in 2022, he was the first Ouachita Baptist prospect to be ever drafted but he had a relatively quiet rookie campaign, appearing in just one game and logging 28 defensive snaps.

Junior saw an uptick of playing time in 2023 but wasn't able to do much of it, registering just one pass deflection on 93 defensive snaps. In his defense, injuries held him back. He started the regular season on Injured Reserve and ended up suiting up in nine contests. This wouldn't be an issue if the third-year cornerback were healthy and making plays in training camp, but that's not the case.

Junior hasn't been able to shake off the injury bug. On Day 9 of training camp, he had to be helped off the field after getting hurt. It's currently unknown how much time he'll miss (if any) but being away from the football field will hurt his chances of making the team.

Yasir Abdullah, linebacker

Edge rusher Yasir Abdullah was seen as a potential steal last year. It made sense. Despite his lack of ideal length, he was highly productive at Louisville, registering 39 sacks and eight forced fumbles from 2020-2023. Add the fact that the Jags needed to bolster their rotation behind Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen, and the Florida native looked like a candidate to make an impact as a rookie.

Abdullah did make the initial 53-man roster but was a healthy scratch for several games and failed to do much of note, logging just one total tackle the whole year. The good news is that he got a clean slate with defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen and switched to off-linebacker in his scheme.

The bad news is that Abdullah has been unremarkable throughout training camp. Whether he's gotten a full grasp of his new position, he's not made enough plays to make you think he'll make the team. Working in his favor is that he's still got time to make an impression before the regular season but time is running out.

Cam Robinson, left tackle

Cam Robinson has been the Jaguars' starting left tackle since they drafted him in 2017. While he's never earned an All-Pro designation, he's become a staple on the offensive line. On top of that, he's turned into their leader because of his nasty streak and willingness to embrace a skirmish. That said, the Alabama product is entering a contract year and is facing competition to keep his job in 2024.

Walker Little is giving Robinson everything he's got and may have a slight edge in training camp. Mia O'Brian of 1010 XL reported that the former was able to hold off defensive end Josh Hines-Allen but the latter struggled.

Now, one rep or one practice isn't going to make or break a player, but everything counts, especially in a competition as tight as the one at left tackle. Simply, Robinson cannot cruise control if he wants to come out on top. Working in his favor is that he hurt his shoulder on Day 8 of practice but didn't miss time. Having said that, he'll need to work his magic, or else he'll be at risk of losing his job to Little, or worse even, getting shipped out of town.
