Wide receiver Zay Jones was arrested Monday for a misdemeanor domestic battery charge, per multiple reports. He was booked into Duval County Jail after 6 p.m. ET and has a court appearance scheduled for 9 a.m. ET Tuesday. Not long after the news broke, the Jacksonville Jaguars released a statement:

"We are aware of the situation and are in the midst of gathering information. We will have no further comment at this time." Here's the statement, via Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times Union.

This is a fluid situation, so it's better not to speculate, especially when there are not many details publicly available. Taking a wait-and-see approach is the best course of action.

Jones, a second-round pick in the 2016 draft, signed a three-year deal worth $24 million with the Jaguars in 2022. He set new career bests for receiving yards and catches in his first season in Jacksonville. However, a knee injury he suffered in Week 2 has limited him to three games this year. He returned in Week 5 but re-injured the knee.

Earlier this year, cornerback Chris Claybrooks was arrested on a felony charge of false imprisonment and a domestic battery misdemeanor charge, He was eventually placed on the Commissioners Except List, and the league could take the same step with Jones depending on how the situation unfolds.

The Jackosnville Jaguars depth at WR will be tested without Zay Jones

Jones hasn't played since Week 5 but recently returned to practice and was making progress, according to head coach Doug Pederson. With him and receiver/return specialist Jamal Agnew expected to miss time with a shoulder injury, the team's depth at the position could be tested.

Without Jones and Angew in the fold, Tim Jones is the next man up. An undrafted free agent in 2021 out of Southern Mississippi, Jones made the roster last year after an encouraging preseason. He went on to play all 17 games and catch three receptions for 30 yards. This season, he's appeared on 179 percent of the offensive snaps and has hauled in seven receptions. He will likely see an increase in his workload in the upcoming weeks.

Other players such as undrafted rookie Elijah Cooks or Jacob Harris, currently on the team's practice squad, could also see an increase in playing time.

It's hard to tell how much time Zay Jones will miss but the Jacksonville Jaguars will need to lean on the next man up. Expect more details to surface regarding Jones' situation in the upcoming days.
