Jaguars' latest marketing stunt showcases Trevor Lawrence's massive star power
The Jacksonville Jaguars showed that Trevor Lawrence is the long-term answer behind center when they gave him a massive contract extension in the offseason. They're also aware of his star power, which is why they included him in a marketing stun ahead of Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season.
Ahead of their matchup against the Cleveland Browns, the team renamed their home field TrEverBank Stadium, adding temporary signage throughout the venue and outside. This is part of the quarterback's partnership with EverBank, a Jacksonville-based financial service.
Lawrence will now serve as a brand ambassador for EverBank. The company issued a press release explaining why they chose the Jaguars' star quarterback as the face of the campaign.
"In a unique collaboration, EverBank and Trevor have joined forces to bring a fresh twist to the season's Jaguars home opener. The "TrEverBank" campaign isn't just about a new name; it's about showcasing how Trevor's excellence on the field aligns perfectly with EverBank's dedication to delivering top-notch financial services, giving Jaguars fans and EverBank clients the advantage they need to score big on their financial goals."
Before EverBank announced the partnership, there were rumors that Lawrence was planning on cutting his hair. Here's the cryptic tweet that made everyone think the former Clemson Tiger was getting a makeover.
And here's what Lawrence had to say about agreeing to the partnership with EverBank.
"With the advantages EverBank provides, everyone gets treated like an MVP," Lawrence said via the press release announcing his partnership with the financial services company. "EverBank's deep commitment to excellence and the community aligns perfectly with my values. I'm excited to team up with a brand that shares my passion for giving back and always going the extra mile in the pursuit of success."
This isn't the first time Lawrence has become the face of a marketing campaign. He was the first NFL quarterback since Cam Newton to be sponsored by Gatorade. At the time he got the endorsement from the energy drink company, he had already declared for the 2021 NFL Draft but hadn't yet joined the Jags.
Along the way, Lawrence also picked up sponsorships from Bose, Adidas, and even Topps. This wasn't particularly surprising when you take into account that the Knoxville, Tennessee native was the most highly-regarded draft prospect to come out of the collegiate ranks since Andrew Luck in 2012.
The Jaguars have known about Trevor Lawrence's star power from the beginning
You could make the case that Trevor Lawrence has yet to live up to "the generational talent" moniker he earned coming out of college. That said, there's no doubt he's made the Jaguars relevant since they drafted him first overall in 2021. Prior to his arrival, they hardly ever got a primetime game. When they did, Jacksonville got the not-so-appealing slot on Thursday Night.
However, they've gotten a total of five primetimes the past two years, two in 2024 and three the season prior. This would've been unfathomable before Lawrence arrived. Heck, an online commentator became somewhat infamous for predicting that Zach Wilson, the second overall selection in 2021, would have more endorsements than Steezy Trev.
Nowadays, Wilson is a backup for the Denver Broncos trying to salvage his career while Lawrence's face has been plastered in New York.
Again, you can say all you want about Lawrence still not fulfilling his potential but that doesn't take away the fact that he's a very marketable player. If he weren't, EverBank wouldn't be featuring him in their latest marketing campaign, which you know is working because he's the talk of the town and social media.
