The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without a pair of key contributors in defense when they welcome the Cleveland Browns at TrEverBank Stadium in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season.
After suffering a hamstring injury in the opener, cornerback Tyson Campbell landed on Injury Reserve. This means that he'll sit out at least four games. After Week 1, head coach Doug Pederson said that the former Georgia Bulldog would miss time, so the decision to place him on IR doesn't come as a surprise.
The Jags will also be without defensive back Darnell Savage, who's dealing with a quad injury and didn't participate in practice. Besides ruling out the former first-round pick, the team also listed Caleb Williams and Tyler Lacy as questionable.

The good news is that left tackle Cam Robinson had a knee injury and was limited in practice but didn't get a designation for Week 2. Moreover, the Jags made a few moves that will help them withstand the absence of Savage and Campbell. Ahead of the contest, they've promoted Tre Flowers to the active squad. The 2018 fifth-round pick signed with Jacksonville in the offseason and had a strong preseason.
While Flowers didn't make the initial 53-man roster, he landed in the practice squad and will now get a chance to make an impression. He'll probably be the top backup at cornerback behind Ronald Darby and Montaric "Buster" Brown, who'll start in Campbell's place. Head coach Doug Person said as much in the Frank Frangie show.

Pederson also said that Jones will fill in for Savage in the slot. In related news, the team also announced the promotion of Christian Braswell from the practice squad to the active roster via standard elevation.

Days before the contest, the Jaguars signed safety Andre Chachere to the practice squad. That was done to fill the void left by the departure of Terrell Edmunds, who, like Flowers, signed with Jacksonville in May. After a productive preseason, the former Virginia Tech Hokie landed in the practice squad and was promoted to the active roster in Week 1. The Pittsburgh Steelers, the team that drafted him in 2018, liked what they saw and re-signed him after the opener.
On the opposite sideline, the Browns have already ruled out tight end David Njoku and left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. Right tackle Jack Conklin got the questionable tag for the game but defensive end Myles Garrett will be a full-go after popping up on the injury report ahead of the game.
Nothing serious for #Browns star pass-rusher Myles Garrett, who did not practice because of a foot injury. Doesn't seem concerning.
