The Miami Dolphins are in dire need of a starting quarterback after Tua Tagoviloa suffered a concussion against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. While they could give free agent Ryan Tannehill a call, they should also get in touch with the Jacksonville Jaguars and inquire about Mac Jones.

Granted, the Jags may not be willing to give Jones up. After all, having a backup of his caliber is a luxury not many teams have. Moreover, if they traded him, they would be left exposed in case Trevor Lawrence suffered an injury.

Then again, the Phins could convince Jacksonville to part ways with the Alabama product if they put together an offer that's too good to refuse. The following three may get the job done.

The Jaguars trade Mac Jones to the Dolphins in exchange for 1st and 4th round selections

This would be the most straightforward way to get a deal done. You could make the case that first and fourth-round picks are a hefty price, but the Miami Dolphins should be willing to pay a premium unless they want to throw in the towel two games in the regular season.

Jones showed in the preseason that he can still play, completing 73.1 percent of his passes for 421 yards with three touchdowns. If the Phins think he can salvage their season, a first and a fourth shouldn't be a steep price to pay.

The Jaguars trade Mac Jones to the Dolphins in exchange for Liam Eichenberg and a 3rd-rounder

The Jaguars wouldn't likely be interested in players such as Jeff Wilson Jr., or Braxton Berrios because they're stacked at running back and wide receiver, respectively. Liam Eicnehberg, on the other hand, would be an interesting project.

A second-round pick in 2021, Eichengberg has struggled but his ability to play guard and center could come in handy in Jacksonville. This is especially true when you take into account the Jags didn't have ideal depth on the interior offensive line last year. Having said that, the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish alone wouldn't get a deal done, precisely because he's been inconsistent.

The Dolphins would also need to throw in a third-round pick, which would arguably be more valuable than Eichenberg. After all, the Jags could end up with a playmaker with that selection while there's no guarantee the offensive lineman will turn the corner.

The Jaguars trade Mac Jones to the Dolphins in exchange for Jaelan Phillips and a 6th-round pick

Again, you could argue that asking for an ascending player or a first-round pick may not be reasonable, but if the Dolphins think Mac Jones will help them keep the offense afloat, it would then be worth it. As noted before, there aren't many players on the Miami roster that may be of the Jags' interest. Edge rusher Jaelan Philips is one of the few.

Phillips has been a highly productive player for the Dolphins the past three seasons, registering 23 sacks. While he tore his Achilles late in 2023, he's close to 100 percent. Even though the former Miami Hurrican was on a snap count against the Jaguars, he managed to take down Trevor Lawrence on a crucial play late in the game.

The Jags already have a dynamic pass-rush tandem in Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker. However, Phillips would round out their rotation and turn it into one of the best in the league.
