The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off a disappointing season. While there were several bigger reasons for their lack of success, Trevor Lawrence certainly played a role. To ensure he helps them win games, they got a new head coach that will get him back on track. And if things play out like the Jags expect, No. 16 should once again play like a top-10 quarterback. Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated believes that will be the case.
Orr came up with one prediction for all 32 NFL steams. For the Jaguars, he believes Lawrence will throw for over 30 touchdowns for the first time in his career, noting that he'll benefit from the arrival of Liam Coen.
"The Jaguars will watch Trevor Lawrence throw 30 or more touchdowns for the first time in his career. Though the Jaguars botched the timing of the Liam Coen hiring, wiping themselves out of consideration for other coaches thanks to the presence of Trent Baalke, they got themselves a capable, dynamic play-caller and will almost certainly address some of the foundational issues on defense with the No. 5 pick in the draft."
Lawrence's personal best for touchdowns is 25, which he achieved in 2025. In fact, he's only thrown more than 20 in a season since the Jaguars made him the first overall pick in 2021, so it's fair to say that Orr's prediction is indeed bold. Then again, Steezy Trev has a realistic shot to pull it off.
After all, Jacksonville prioritized looking for a head coach who could get the best out of Lawrence during its search for a head coach. It settled on Coen, who played a massive role in Baker Mayfield having a career year in 2024. Similarly, he turned the running game from one of the worst in the league to one of the best during his lone season as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator.
Granted, Coen will oversee the whole team, not just the offense, in Jacksonville, but he's put together a coaching staff that will help him implement his vision.
Also working in Lawrence's favor is that he'll have a vast arsenal of weapons even if Christian Kirk and Evan Engram leave in the offseason. Brian Thomas Jr. proved he's the real deal as a rookie, and Parker Washington showed last year that he's ready for a bigger role.
Of course, the team's brass will need to do their part. It will need to beef up the offensive trenches and find a receiver opposite Thomas. Both needs should be taken care of in the offseason.
The Jaguars are confident Trevor Lawrence will help them win games in 2025
The Jacksonville Jaguars are confident Trevor Lawrence will hit his stride next season. Vice president of football operations Tony Boselli recently said that Liam Coen is excited to work with the fifth-year quarterback.
"Liam is a believer. He loves Trevor. And I don't think we've even scratched the surface of who Trevor Lawrence is going to be," Boselli said during an appearance on talkSports End Zone. "Trevor Lawrence is a good, good dude. He and he's a competitor. He wants to get better. He wants to win. And our job is to make sure we put a system in place, a culture that we do everything to support, not just him, but all our players to give them the tools and resources to be great."
Boselli continued, "And then at the end of the day, then it's on them. And just like everyone in the building, we're all accountable for what we put on the field and the product we put out there, which really enforces that process of how we get there. And Liam has a very detailed plan of how we're going to do it."
Based on Boselli's comments, the Jaguars want to put Lawrence in a position to succeed, so he can carry the team on his shoulders. It will be interesting to see if that will be enough to help him get back in shape. Connor Orr thinks it will be.
