It's not often that the Jacksonville Jaguars get the spotlight, but they're currently making noise across the NFL because they're 7-4 in Year 1 of the Liam Coen era. Moreover, they're in a favorable position to make the playoffs and have a realistic chance to win the AFC South. Having said that, the Jags are far from perfect.
Throughout the year, Jacksonville has dealt with drops and has had trouble keeping penalties to a minimum. Yet, Coen's squad has managed to overcome self-inflicted wounds to win football games, and a notable announcer just highlighted their ability to overcome mistakes.
Unlike the Ravens, the Jaguars are winning games with a -4 turnover differential
During the Thanksgiving broadcast between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens, Mike Tirico noted that it's tough to win football games with a turnover differential of -4... unless you're the Jags. Below are his remarks, via former Florida Times-Union writer Eugene Frenette.
NBC’s Mike tirico just said in reference to @ravens that “you don’t win games with zero-4 turnover margins.” Unless, of course, ur the #Jaguars.

The Baltimore Ravens had five turnovers and ended up losing 32-14 on Thurdsay Night.

The Jaguars are winning games in spite of their mistakes
In case you're wondering what Tirico is talking about, the Jaguars beat the Cardinals in spite of playing with a minus-4 turnover margin. Trevor Lawrence threw three picks and lost a fumble, which was, in turn, returned for a touchdown.
And that's the thing, teams can win football games even if they turn the ball over four times, but it's really tough. That's why their victory over Arizona stands out. As Bucky Brooks of the team's official website pointed out, Jacksonville simply made enough plays to overcome the -4 turnover margin.
Sure, Lawrence accounted for four turnovers, but he also put together several scoring drives. Parker Washington had a big return. Meanwhile, the defense continually rattled Jaboby Brisett and brought the Cards' comeback attempt to a screeching halt in overtime.
This doesn't mean the Jaguars can't get better. If anything, they need to build off of their gritty win over the Cardinals and try to cut down mistakes. Heading into Week 13, they have a +4 turnover differential, meaning that they have created four more takeaways (13 interceptions, 5 forced fumbles) than giveaways.
This is an important indicator because playoff teams tend to have a positive turnover differential. Of the 12 teams with the best TO differential, only the Cardinals don't have a legitimate chance to qualify for the postseason. At +4, the Houston Texans are 6-5 but have bounced back after their slow start to the season.
Of course, they're are always outliers. The New England Patriots are among the top clubs in the AFC but sit at 0. Similarly, the Denver Broncos lead the AFC West despite the fact that they sit at -3.
Circling back to the Jaguars, they've shown resilience in recent weeks, and that kind of mindset will allow them to keep winning games the rest of the way. Of course, making an effort not to turn the ball over will also help.
